For Authors
Submit ManuscriptGeneral Information:
The Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law ("DJCIL”) publishes original scholarship on international, transnational and comparative law matters. DJCIL welcomes submissions from professors and practitioners. At this time, DJCIL does not accept submissions from non-Duke law students.
Timing:
Please submit manuscripts as early as possible. Our new editorial board takes office in mid-February and will begin considering making offers for publication on a rolling basis.
Requirements:
- All articles should be submitted in English.
- Articles of fewer than 35,000 words (or roughly 70 law review pages), including footnotes, are strongly preferred; longer articles will only be published in exceptional circumstances. Shorter essays are welcomed.
- Footnotes must conform with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th ed.). Authors should be prepared to provide cited sources upon request.
- Provision of an abstract and conformity with the 16th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style is preferred, but not required.
Expedited Reviews:
DJCIL will make every effort to expedite review in light of deadlines imposed by other journal(s) that have accepted a piece. Please submit expedite requests via Scholastica.** However, we will be unable to expedite any requests before February 15, 2024.**
Please provide the following information in your correspondence:
- Author name;
- Contact information [phone and email];
- Article title;
- Titles of the journal(s) that have accepted the article; and
- The deadlines those journal(s) have imposed.
Selection Process:
DJCIL’s Staff Editors carefully review each submission and recommend further review by Articles Editors on the article selection committee. Upon their recommendation, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding publication and contacts the author with a contract and further information on the publication process.
We look forward to reviewing your submissions.
